Article about Text to Speech

I was recently invited to guest blog for Joel Friedlander's exceptionally fine blog about an interview I conducted with someone from iSpeech, offering Text to Speech technology. They had expressed an interest in connecting with authors in Bay Area Independent Publishers Association, an organization on whose board I serve. I invite you to check it out and make comments here: Joel's blog

Goops and How to Be Them: Cleanliness

Another short poem from Gelett Burgess' book of 1900 on politeness. Next podcast will be another Wordsworth favorite. Stay tuned! If you're enjoying these podcasts, please share them through social media or email, so your friends can enjoy them as well. I'm considering creating a CD/download collection of bedtime stories from the ol' days. I'd love to hear your feedback and suggestions for stories you'd [...]

Goops and How to Be Them: Table Manners II

This dates back to 1900. Goops and How to Be Them: A Manual of Manners for Polite Infants by Gelett Burgess. Very short  - the second on Table Manners. I'd love to hear from listeners what table manners they were taught by their parents and what as parents they teach/have taught their kids. At my best friend's house we were to sit up straight and [...]

Goops and How to Be Them by Gelett Burgess

This dates back to 1900 - the page turn to the 20th century. I expect it must have been passed down to my mom from her mom, both of whom LOVED books and reading, based on the child's signature (my mom's) in pencil inside the cover. I remember this first poem from my childhood and delighting in it. The lengthy subtitle is: A Manual of Manners [...]

“Hold’im Down, Brer Fox” by Julius Lester

I used to read these stories from The Tales of Uncle Remus: The Adventures of Brer Rabbit as told by Julius Lester to my kids and the kids in our afterschool program. I believe that audiobooks carry on the oral storytelling tradition that is central to our understanding of who we are. Enjoy the voices of these characters so many of us have grown up [...]
